Shaw + Smith, `Lenswood` Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, was sourced exclusively from Block 4 at Shaw + Smith's picturesque Lenswood property. The vineyard is mature (planted in 1999) and reaches 500 metres above sea level. The site has always shown potential for a single site wine and in 2014 the ambition was realised with the first release.

The Shaw + Smith, `Lenswood` Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is an elegant single vineyard Chardonnay, with aromas of blossom, grapefruit and white peach complemented by notes of brioche. The palate is long and flavoursome, with good mid-palate texture and bright acidity to balance the intensity of fruit.
Fermentation: The Chardonnay is gently whole-bunch pressed and fermented in 500-liter French oak puncheons, with approximately 30% being new oak. It undergoes full malolactic fermentation, contributing to its creamy mouthfeel.
Aging: The wine matures for 10 months in oak, followed by a period of resting in tank prior to bottling, allowing for integration of flavors and development of complexity.
James Suckling: Awarded the 2022 vintage a score of 97, describing it as “among the country’s varietal exemplars” with “transparent and tensile” qualities, and noting its “precision, intense flavors, and immense class.”
